Antique ceramic “Broody egg”

This is a really hard-to find item and increasingly so. 

Broody eggs were used to encourage hens to lay eggs and were placed in a chicken coop to mimic real eggs. consequently they have gained a delightful patina and are just wonderful decorative objects in their own right. 

This one is particularly early and a beautiful pale colour.
