beautifully preserved pair of mid-century Japanese bottle-brush Christmas trees, dating from the 1950s–60s and retaining all the nostalgic charm of early festive displays. Crafted from traditional bottle-brush fibres wound around a wire core, each tree is lightly dusted with its original hand-applied ‘snow’ and set into a bright red lacquered wooden base.
Their fine natural bristle texture, soft tapering silhouette and subtle aged patina capture the essence of Japan’s post-war export craftsmanship — the very trees once used to decorate Christmas villages, Putz scenes and window displays. Surviving as a well-matched pair, they offer wonderful authenticity and visual warmth.
Provenance:
Accompanied by oral provenance indicating that they once formed part of the Bletchley Museum collection, adding a further note of cultural and historical interest. (No written documentation accompanies this account.)
Dimensions:
Height: 16cm (each)
Condition:
Light age-appropriate wear to bristles and flocking, entirely consistent with mid-century materials. Stable and beautifully presentable.
