A charming late Victorian creamware jug featuring beautifully moulded wheat and foliate decoration, complete with its original weighted pewter patent lid.
This attractive piece retains its ingenious self-closing lid mechanism. The weighted pewter lid automatically lifts when the jug is tipped for pouring and returns to a closed position when upright, a practical Victorian innovation designed to protect the contents from dust and insects.
The pale cream body is richly decorated with raised agricultural motifs, including wheat sheaves and scrolling foliage, giving the jug a classic country-house aesthetic. The original pewter lid and ceramic finial remain intact, adding to its authenticity and appeal.
An unusual and decorative example of Victorian tableware, ideal for display in a farmhouse kitchen, country cottage or antique collection.
